Imagine being jolted out of a sound sleep at 3:30 a.m. by the violent shaking of your house and everything in it. The panic you feel is even more frightening to a child.
Girls and boys in Italy’s mountainous Abruzzo Region endured such a night on April 6 when a powerful earthquake struck. Today, thousands of children made homeless by the disaster are living with their families in temporary tent communities, unsure of what will happen next.
You can help Save the Children ensure that children can begin to recover from the tremendous emotional stresses they are experiencing and help restore stability and normalcy to their lives. Your generous gift today will help Save the Children strengthen their resiliency and allow them to play, learn and just be children.
Save the Children arrived on the scene in Abruzzo within hours of the earthquake and was quick to start activities for children in a camp of displaced families near the badly damaged city of L’Aquila. Children in the camp...Read More -

Save the Children has deployed emergency experts to central Italy, where a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck in the early hours of Monday morning and displaced thousands of people. The team will focus on assessing and responding to the most urgent needs for children.
Families made homeless by Italian earthquake
"Children are among the most vulnerable during any emergency. With this disaster, they were forced from their beds and out into the streets in the middle of the night, which is particularly frightening for small children," said Charles MacCormack, president and CEO of Save the Children, based in Westport, Connecticut. "Thousands of families are now homeless and will need help to get their lives back together. We stand ready to assist."
In addition to providing lifesaving relief as needed, Save the Children staff expect to establish psychosocial support programs for children as well as establish family tracing systems for children separated from their families. The agency...Read More -
Julianne Moore's Special Valentine Message

As a mother of two and Save the Children Ambassador, actress Julianne Moore knows how much our work means to poor, rural children in the U.S. To help us make a difference for these children in need, she's asked several talented artists to create special Valentine's Day cards for kids.
Recently as a Save the Children Ambassador, Moore visited one of the poorest, most remote communities in the mountains of Appalachia where Save the Children has worked for more than 75 years.
Moore reports that it was shocking to see so many children and their families struggling to get by. But she also was particularly moved to see how Save the Children's programs are helping students overcome obstacles to reading and at the same time teaching new moms about early learning activities for their young children.
And now – because of Moore’s efforts – there's a beautiful new way for other kids and families across the country to make a difference in the lives of children in need.

Bill Frist
Former Senate Majority Leader and chair of Save the Children’s Survive to 5 Campaign:
"When children die needlessly, we have a moral and humanitarian imperative to act. Our nation has always adopted the common cause of those in need. And at a time when we have the tools and the knowledge to save millions of young lives each year, we should do so with greater urgency and commitment… The clock is ticking. The time to act is now." Betty McCollum
Minnesota Congresswoman and House sponsor of the Global Child Survival Act:
"We have the tools to save millions of young lives each year. What we need is the political will — from Congress, the President, and all the world's leaders. Preventing many newborn and child deaths requires only the basics we take for granted, such as antibiotics, vaccines and vitamins. My bill, the United States Commitment to Global Child Survival Act, will make America a leader in saving the lives o...Read More
