Italian Earthquake - Please help Imagine being jolted out of a sound sleep at 3:30 a.m. by the violent shaking of your house and everything in it. The panic you feel is even more frightening to a child.

Girls and boys in Italy’s mountainous Abruzzo Region endured such a night on April 6 when a powerful earthquake struck. Today, thousands of children made homeless by the disaster are living with their families in temporary tent communities, unsure of what will happen next.

You can help Save the Children ensure that children can begin to recover from the tremendous emotional stresses they are experiencing and help restore stability and normalcy to their lives. Your generous gift today will help Save the Children strengthen their resiliency and allow them to play, learn and just be children.

Save the Children arrived on the scene in Abruzzo within hours of the earthquake and was quick to start activities for children in a camp of displaced families near the badly damaged city of L’Aquila. Children in the camp are playing in a supervised area and sharing their experiences with others. These first steps in their recovery are crucial.

Your gift is urgently needed. The more generous you are, the more Save the Children can do to provide children in the disaster zone with opportunities to regain a sense of security.

Save the Children also plans to reach out to parents and children’s caregivers so that they can help ease children’s fears and worries. And, you will also help Save the Children reach families in camps with important health and hygiene messages.

Every disaster takes a terrible toll on children. I ask you to help Save the Children give children in Italy’s shattered Abruzzo communities hope that comes with a speedy recovery from the turmoil they continue to experience.
