  • Starbright World, Starlight's online community for sick teens and teen siblings, gets a makeover

Having a serious or life-threatening medical condition can make it even harder to cope with already-difficult realities of being a teenager. Supporting a brother or sister who has an illness can be daunting as well. With this in mind, Starlight created Starbright World, an online social network exclusively for sick teens, 13-20, and their teenaged siblings.

With help from a generous six-figure grant from signature sponsor Vivendi, Starlight unveiled the next generation of Starbright World earlier this week. The new-and-improved site leverages the latest in social networking technology to keep up with the ever-changing and more sophisticated expectations of today’s teens. To learn more, visit www.starlight.org/starbrightworld for all of the details.

Check out our multimedia news release page for Starbright World at http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/starbright/40978/, which includes a press release about the site’s launch, a promotional video, helpful links, and related document...Read More

  • And the Race Continues for America’s Giving Challenge

America’s Giving Challenge launched on October 7, and Starlight has been working hard to promote the campaign through our social networking sites, in e-mails to our supporters, to our Firstgiving volunteers, and on our website in the hopes of winning up to $50,000 in prizes from the Case Foundation.

In case you missed it, America’s Giving Challenge is just what its name suggests—a challenge to get people to “give back” to causes out there like Starlight who are trying to improve the lives of others.

The Giving Challenge does not reward the largest causes, but those who can get the most donors visit our Causes page on Facebook on a daily basis to make daily donations (days count as 12 noon – 12 noon PT the next day)! You don’t have to have a Facebook account to participate!

Help us spread the word! America’s Giving Challenge is one of the best opportunities we’ve had to mobilize our supporters on our social networks. Please take a moment to change your signature lines, send ...Read More

STRESS - Major stress can give you mood swings, fatigue, and decreased concentration and memory. It can also have physical impacts like changes in heart rate and blood pressure, weight gain, and a weakened immune system. It pays to make time to manage your stress level...

SCHOOL - College can be stressful -- learn simple stress management techniques that will help improve how you feel by changing your actions and thoughts.

WORK - Because you have a medical condition that affects so much of your daily life, it helps to know your rights in the workplace, and to take all the steps you can to make sure you're protected.

    Related causes: Health

When employees make their selections for charitable payroll deductions, Starlight can benefit tremendously by being represented. We have heard time and again that employees today, like all donors, want a variety of choices that reflect their interests, and that the most successful workplace giving campaigns are the ones that respond to that desire. Is Starlight one of the choices listed by your employer? If not, ask your employer to include America’s Charities in your company’s workplace giving campaign.

Starlight is a member of America’s Charities, a federation of more than 80 of the country’s best loved charities that work to meet the needs of communities, families and children in neighborhoods, across the nation and around the world. We are proud to stand beside organizations such as Make-A-Wish, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Feed the Children, Amnesty International of the USA, PetSmart Charities, Veterans for America, the Humane Society of the United States, America’s Seco...Read More
