  • Help Starlight Families Before the Ball Drops at Midnight!

    Help Starlight Families Before the Ball Drops at Midnight! If you’re sitting at home with your family on New Year’s Eve, you might suddenly realize you never mailed in your donation to Starlight. Never fear! It only takes five minutes to make an online donation through Starlight’s website, and your generosity will benefit kids and families coping with longterm serious illness throughout 2009. For example, your support might help to fund a Great Escape so that families with sick children can enjoy a recreational activity without the anxiety of planning or expense. You might help to expand Starlight’s presence in new areas around the country, such as Arizona, so that families there have the full range of Starlight programs. Or, your donation might help to fund our chat room hosts for Starbright World, our secure online network for seriously ill teens, so that a teen facing a scary treatment can reach out and connect with another teen going through the same thing.

    And, don’t forget, by getting your donation in before midnight on New Year’s Eve, you’ll earn an income-tax deduction on your 2008 tax return. In addition, charitable gifts may help you avoid capital-gains taxes if you donate appreciated securities or other items that have gone up in value.

    To help Starlight kids and families all year long and claim a charitable deduction on your 2008 tax return, make your donation:
    • by phone at 310.479.1212 by 5:00 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, Dec. 31;
    • by mail to 5757 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite M-100; Los Angeles, CA 90036 and postmarked by Dec. 31;
    • online at www.starlight.org/donate by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31.

    On behalf of all of the children and families we serve, we thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and wish you a wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year!
