The Art of Elysium arrives in NEW YORK CITY! Calling all Artists! The Art of Elysium is very excited to announce that after many successful years of programming in the Greater Los Angeles area we are finally opening our doors in New York City! Thanks to our many volunteers, artists and supporters, we are excited to give the gift of creativity to children and families on a national level on both the west and east coasts.

As many of you already know, The Art of Elysium, is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that was founded in 1997, we encourage working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions. We provide artistic workshops in the following disciplines: acting, art, comedy, fashion, music, radio, songwriting and creative writing.

You are invited to a Benefit Concert in Honor of Jordan Lawhead Dear Friends of The Art of Elysium,

It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to you. On March 23, 2009 we have the powerful gift of giving to one of our own who is facing the same fears that our children face while in the hospital.

Jordan Lawhead has volunteered his incredible musical talents to brighten the lives of patients at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and beyond through the music programs of The Art of Elysium. He now needs each of us to reach inside and see what we have to give to help him while he faces multiple medical treatments and the uncertainty that the diagnosis of Melanoma brings. Jordan's faith and untiring belief in the artistic spirit and the true miracle of creativity and the healing it can bring is sure to guarantee him as the victor in this fight. The opportunity that Jordan has given us to help him at this time in his life is a gift because as Saint Francis said, "it is in giving that we receive".

I ask each of you to accept this gift and ...Read More

  • "The Wizard of Oz" With We Can

99.jpg The Art of Elysium had the exciting opportunity to bring teen patients and families from We Can (a parent-initiated pediatric brain tumor network that serves greater Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area) to experience "The Wizard of Oz" by KIDS IN ACT-ION and their "Cirque Style" approach to the traditional children's story.

A special thank you to creator Nathalie Yves Gaulthier, who invited The Art of Elysium to this performance of her newest kids' production with her KIDS IN ACT-ION program. KIDS IN ACT-ION is an empowerment program, which trains youth in performing arts ranging from Circus Arts to Musical Theatre and Acting. The Art of Elysium was thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful show as well to work with an organization whose goal is to inspire children and promote positive self-esteem.

Summer of 2008 brought some exciting new programming services to The Art of Elysium, thanks to a generous Youth Arts & Education grant from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

This grant will enable us to offer two unique, sequential series of educational workshops for chronically ill youth at two of our hospital partner sites:

    • "Objects of Power, Strength and Magic: Folk Arts Projects from Around the World" will introduce children ages 6 - 12 to a wide array of folk arts traditions from around the world and give them hands-on opportunities to express personal ideas about power, strength and magic as conveyed through the creation of traditional art forms from different countries.
    • "Things Aren't Always What They Seem: Using Photography to Explore Multiple Meanings" will introduce teens to a range of photographic techniques and activities, and explore the concept that a photographer can create multiple meanings within a single image.

    The workshops will be...Read More
