  • The Animals' Emmys

The Animals' Emmys At The HSUS, we are forced to confront the dark side of the human spirit—whether it’s manifest in the form of animal fighting, seal killing, canned hunts, or other abusive activities. But we don’t take the present circumstance as our sealed fate. We know we can do better as a society. We believe in the capacity of individuals to change and to exhibit kindness and compassion. When we aggregate that change from so many individuals, then institutions and the entire society can shed bad conduct and reach a higher state of consciousness in our dealings with other creatures.

That’s why we believe in the power of the human spirit to illuminate, to innovate, and to lead. More and more, we at The HSUS celebrate people who use their talents to show us a kinder pathway, and we have a wide range of programs that recognize the good that people are doing—Legislative Awards, Law Enforcement Awards, Humane Awards, Pro Bono Litigation Awards, and the like. This past weekend, we conducted the 23rd annual Genesis Awards, recognizing a couple of dozen journalists and entertainment industry leaders for spotlighting abuse. We've posted photos and our video staff have assembled a montage of the event, which we hope you’ll watch: http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2009/04/genesis-awards.html
