  • Redefine Christmas 2008!

    Redefine Christmas 2008!

Give others donations to their favorite charities! Redefine Christmas is neither commercial venture, nor money-maker. It's simply a charitable idea, shared by many, that our holiday gift giving could be more meaningful and do more good. In addition to the gifts we enjoy shopping for and giving, we're often compelled to give gifts that aren't so meaningful. Imagine if we replaced those gifts by giving others donations to their favorite charities. And we just request that others do the same for us. Featuring: Tucker Albrezzi, Sarah Carter (Dirty Sexy Money, Shark), Kestrin Pantera (Rita Rocks, Alter Eco, Weezer), Carly Craig (Role Models), Pat Pedraja, Joy Bryant (Antwone Fisher, Virtuality), Jack Healey, Sean Carasso, Ken Jeong (Role Models, Knocked Up), Lukas Haas (Musician, Entourage), Caitlin Coble, Ana-Maria Munoz and Heather Bright (TOMS shoes), Brian White (Fighting, Twelve Rounds), Noah Segan (Brick, Deadgirl), Nzinga Blake (The Causecast, Current TV), Marcus Price and Chad Ackerman (Invisible Children)

  • 12 Days of Giving

    12 Days of Giving

Americans typically spend $470 billion a year on holiday gifts. Just 1/3 of that would provide clean drinking water for every man, woman and child on the planet. Lets break the stereotype. This year we challenge you to give in a new way. Face it, we’re in a recession and people need change. It’s simple. Causecast’s 12 Days of Giving campaign brings together multiple nonprofit organizations, ambassadors, activists, leaders and members of the entertainment world to get the message out loud and clear: "We don’t need another scarf or sweater. We need change." Buy one less present and donate one more dollar in a friend’s name to a charity of their choice. Or better yet, buy a gift for them that directly benefits the cause and still makes your friend or family member happy. It’s that easy. We can change the world one gift at a time. We don't need five more diamond rings, a turtle dove, or even another cheesy pop infused annoying commercial…unless that commercial has a different message. along with non-profit and human rights leaders. Featuring Tucker Albrezzi, Sarah Carter (Dirty Sexy Money, Shark), Kestrin Pantera (Rita Rocks, Alter Eco, Weezer), Carly Craig (Role Models), Pat Pedraja, Joy Bryant (Antwone Fisher, Virtuality), Jack Healey, Sean Carasso, Ken Jeong (Role Models, Knocked Up), Lukas Haas (Musician, Entourage), Caitlin Coble, Ana-Maria Munoz and Heather Bright (TOMS shoes), Brian White (Fighting, Twelve Rounds), Noah Segan (Brick, Deadgirl), Nzinga Blake (The Causecast, Current TV), Marcus Price and Chad Ackerman (Invisible Children) Also, check out the 12 Days of Giving Extended Music Video at http://www.causecast.org/82/videos/4978-12-days-of-giving

  • Portrait of Perseverance - From Homeless to Hope

Portrait of Perseverance - From Homeless to Hope

Sakina Lockhart never planned on being homeless. She came to Atlanta from Baltimore full of dreams and drive, pursuing her goal of becoming an interior designer. Looking out towards the front door of her apartment, provided with the assistance of Covenant House International, Lockhart reflects on how far she has come from just a few years ago - a homeless college student sleeping in shelters (or run down motel hallways depending on the day), walking miles to class every day and never losing hope. It is the goal of Do1Thing to empower homeless youth to move themselves from homelessness to a permanent housing. Empowerment comes by outfitting the teens with training, items and supplies needed to overcome their current situations move forward. We partner with Covenant House International, the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas providing shelter and other services to homeless, runaway and throwaway youth. Our second partner is StandUp for Kids. The mission of StandUp for Kids is to help homeless and street kids. They do this, every day, in cities across America, carrying out their mission through volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Do1Thing is a project of the Heart Gallery of New Jersey, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by the generous contributions of individuals, corporations and foundations. Chris Stanfield has more than 15 years of experience as a versatile photojournalist and picture editor. Working at eight newspapers across five states, Chris was named by Presstime magazine as one of the top 20 journalists under the age of 40 in the United States. Stanfield is a founding member and past president of the Associated Press Photo Managers one the nation's largest organizations for photo managers, picture editors and photo educators. A graduate and faculty member of the Eddie Adams Workshop, Chris resides in Atlanta with his wife and two children and works as an independent photographer and storyteller.

  • Reggie's Sleepout

    Reggie's Sleepout

This video by freelance photojournalist David Peterson was originally produced for Drake University to document the sights and sounds of Reggie's Sleepout, a university-hosted event designed to educate the public about homelessness. It includes the voices of organizers and participants, as well as selections from songs played during the event to help raise awareness. In March 2001, Reggie Kelsey aged out of the foster care system, became homeless and was found dead in the Des Moines River two months later. Reggie's Sleepout was organized to create awareness of and provide support for more than 3,000 homeless youth in Polk County, Iowa. David Peterson has been a photojournalist since 1975, having worked at the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Des Moines Register. He currently owns his own freelance photography business, specializing in documentary, sports, corporate and travel photography. While at the Des Moines Register, Peterson won two Pulitzer Prizes. The first was in 1987 for Feature Photography when he documented Iowa's farm crisis. The second was in 1991 for Community Service.

    yourTruth - Part 1 - Big Media

The late comedian George Carlin once observed that Americans have "owners" who "control just about all of the news and information you get to hear." Do you think of our mainstream media outlets as mouthpieces for balanced journalism? theN3TWORK's creative team has put together its most comprehensive episode to date, dissecting the power structures behind American corporate media and exposing glaring conflicts of interest. We also encapsulate the most critical changes in media regulation policy over the last century and discuss the implications for the rise of alternative media with the current Director of Project Censored, Peter Phillips.
