Do1Thing: Pim Van Hemmen
Pim Van Hemmen, co-founder of Do1Thing.org, talks about how photographers, writers and editors can positively affect the lives of some of the thousands of teenagers who will age out of foster care and become homeless this year. He bases these views on his experience with the Heart Gallery project, which he also co-founded with Najlah Feanny Hicks. A native of the Netherlands, Hemmen spent 10 years covering sports, features and worldwide news events for The Star-Ledger in Newark, New Jersey. He then created and ran an all-digital photo department at the newspaper, which won the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography in 2001, the newspaper’s first Pulitzer. He is a former New Jersey Press Photographer of the Year and co-editor of three books.
